Joint effort to combat Blackwall Tunnel truck offenders

Blackwall queueTransport for London, the Metropolitan Police and VOSA have joined forces in a major clampdown on problems caused by trucks in the Blackwall Tunnel. Currently, enforcement measures are only taken where the operator is identifiable from its livery. In future, all commercial vehicles involved in breakdowns and overheight collisions within the tunnel will now be passed on to VOSA for further action to be taken against the driver and operator, action which could extend to referral to the Traffic Commissioner. As well as the increased lines of communication, other measures will include a new shared office on site with weighing and inspection facilities, and ANPR and weigh-in-motion sensors on the A2 to identify problem vehicles before they even reach the tunnel.
