Driver celebrates 30 years at Evri

Evri driver trainer Gary Oates

Gary Coates, driver and now senior driver trainer at parcel delivery firm Evri, is celebrating 30 years of working at the Yorkshire business.

Gary has had several roles during his time with the company, but has spent the last 20 years as a driving instructor at Evri’s driving academy, where he has trained around 1000 people.

To mark his achievement, Gary has been presented with a hamper and certificate by Evri’s chief human resources officer, Lyn Warren.

Speaking about his time with Evri, Gary said: “I love training people and seeing them gain a skill that can help them change their lives.

“In the early days I trained mostly men, but in recent years more women have realised there are some great career opportunities in driving.

“My brother was a supervisor at Grattan all those years ago and got me my first job here,” he continued. “I spent 10 years driving nights, which was a great way to spend time with my young family.

Everyone was so used to me creeping in at all hours, so it took some getting used to when I started this day job!”

Gary is now the senior driving instructor and said he hoped that wasn’t “just because of my age”.
