Stand-up comedy coming to Convoy in the park

There is more to Convoy in the Park than just the roar of a V8 and the smell of T-Cut: visitors attending the two-day festival of trucks and drivers at Donington Park on 21 July will be able to laugh the night away with a bursting line-up of comedy in the Big Top tent.

In conjunction with charity Stand Up for Humanity there are three comedians already on a top bill – that comes with an adult content warning – with more to come before Convoy starts rolling.

First up is Roger Monkhouse, one of the regular writers on Channel 4’s hugely popular comedy panel show 8 Out of 10 Cats. Described by the Manchester Evening News as having “an enthusiasm akin to that of an excitable professor who’s just found the gene that would enable a python to grow a beard” Monkhouse (no relation to Bob) has gigged throughout the UK and is a regular member of the prestigious and critically acclaimed ‘Cutting Edge’ team at the London Comedy Store.

Also on the bill is Chris Norton Walker, of whom Chorltle.co.uk describes as having a “pleasing line in self-deprecation”. Walker’s brand of one-liners, hilarious anecdotes and commanding stage persona make him a regular performer on the Brighton and Manchester comedy circuits.

Paul T Eyres was (according to the Comedyclub.co.uk) so bored of middle-class values that he converted to Buddhism, only to win the title of world’s rudest Buddhist. Despite his everyman appearance, Eyres rallies against the stereotypes and assumptions that are ingrained into our culture, leading to top comedian Reginald D Hunter to say: “’I wish I’d written that joke,’” and his Edinburgh show to sell out.

There’s more great names to come, so keep your eyes open for more news on what promises to be a hilarious night.

This night of big top comedy is not the only attraction at Convoy in the Park: the weekend includes round 5 of the British Truck Racing Championship; more than 1000 show trucks and live music on both days from the Counterfeit Beatles and the Rolling Clones.
