Charles Russell International buys new Schmitz Cargobull MEGA curtainsider trailers for Euro work

Trailers! Generally the less exciting part of an articulated combination, but no less important! What a beautiful set of curtainsiders Charles Russell has just bought. Here’s the press release in full, plus a couple of lovely pics…

Heavy transport specialist Charles Russell International has maximised its opportunities in Europe by introducing Schmitz Cargobull’s versatile MEGA curtainsiders into its fleet for the first time. The Cheltenham-based operator’s nine new assets are fitted with VARIOS Technology, meaning each has an adjustable height roof which can be altered to meet varying restrictions on the continent, as well as a sliding roof to allow loading via cranes.

The versatility of Schmitz Cargobull’s roofing technology is unrivalled, and was recommended for the firm’s pan-European industrial machinery and equipment deliveries by industry peers. Charles Russell International’s Director, Ben Russell, explains: “Working across Europe means we have to be aware of the different laws that apply in different countries and ensure we comply with them all, and these new trailers allow us to do that and more.

“Other operators we spoke to praised the versatility of Schmitz Cargobull’s equipment, and they were able to build trailers to our exact needs – with additional features we have never considered like the sliding roof, which we didn’t even know was an option.” The trailers, which will be in service for at least five years, are expected to collectively make up to 15 trips into Europe every week, delivering machinery to customers in Austria, Benelux, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Scandinavia and Switzerland.

Built on Schmitz Cargobull’s MODULOS bolted chassis for extra strength and durability, the trailers are also equipped with the manufacturer’s TrailerConnect telematics system. TrailerConnect provides full traceability of a trailer’s journey, allows fleet managers and drivers to proactively monitor all the asset’s key components, and sends maintenance and security alerts when necessary – adding peace of mind when transporting high value goods.

As a Schmitz Cargobull customer, Charles Russell International now has access to a support network of 1,700 authorised Service Partners across Europe for maintenance and rapid response. Founded in 1968, Charles Russell Group started as an owner-driver operation specialising in the agricultural sector. As well as transporting machinery, the company also handles and installs industrial plant equipment and large pieces of artwork around the world.
